Anaheim, CA- April 4th, 2012– (Assura PR) The Network of Arab American Professionals of Orange County (NAAPOC) announces the first annual Arab American Comedy Contest in Orange County, CA.  The non-profit organization will hold this entertaining event on Friday, April 6^th, 2012 at the Huntington Beach Cultural Theatre located at 7111 Talbert, Ave. Huntington Beach, CA.  Eleven comedians will compete for a first place grand prize of $1,000; a second place prize of $250; and third place prize of $100.

The show will be held at the beautiful Huntington Beach Cultural Theater. Doors will open at 7:30pm with the show starting at 8:00pm. Comedians will have the opportunity to perform for the audience and contest winners will be determined by the audience vote.

Arab American comedians such as Marie-Therese Abou-Daoud, Mike Batayeh, Joe Berry, Omar Elba, Rida Hamzah, Shaheen “Sheno” Khal (from Sacramento), Sam Leaf, Charles Marina, MoNa (from Chicago), Eman Morgan, and,Sammy Obeid have already been confirmed.  “This is a great opportunity for both established and aspiring comedians to receive recognition, and a wonderful way to bring together the Orange County Arab American Community” says NAAPOC President Sami Mashney.

“The goal of the film is to raise awareness of the unmerited racism that surrounds Arab and Muslim Americans. The film is a call for change so the United States is more habitable for all of its citizens, and to deliver on the promise this country was founded on; all men are created equal.” Says Director Nicholas Ybarra.

The film has received support from The Huntington Beach Film Commission, Arab World Newspaper and Washington Report on Middle Eastern Affairs. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) also offered assistance with script development.

A fundraising event will be held at Golden Nights Restaurant in Buena Park, CA on Saturday, April 7^th at 1pm where attendees will have the chance to meet the actors and the crew.  Attendees will also enjoy prizes, guest speakers, and food. “Adeela” tells the story of a young Arab American woman dealing with racism and hate in a small conservative town. Upon moving to this new area, she catches the eye of a councilman’s son, Aaron. More than 300 people are expected to attend this annual NAAPOC event, expected to be one of the largest Arab-American sit-downs in Southern California. Assemblyman Jose Solorio has been confirmed to be one of the event’s guest speakers. Assemblyman Solorio will talk about encouraging Arab-American-owned businesses; developing the community within the mainstream political parties; enhancing Latino-Arab relationships; and how to position Arab-Americans to take on more meaningful public leadership roles.

The Convention Team has prepared an exciting and enriching program filled with inspiring and wonderful activities, Workshops, Vespers, Arabic Socials, a Pool Side Luau, and much more. The theme of this year’s convention is “ANTIOCH – Where the followers of Jesus were first called Christians” returning Melkite Christians to the roots of their church to enhance their Christian identity.

Three plenary sessions have been scheduled for the Convention; his Excellency, Bishop Nicholas Samra will introduce attendees to the origin of the Church in Antioch under the leadership of Saints Peter and Paul; The Very Reverend Michel Najm, PhD. will address the various schisms from the 5th century through the tragic schism of 1724: and Fr.
